Documentary photograph of 1876 duplex Keepers' Residence flanked by cisterns on either end. The two-story frame buliding with a finished attic rests on a high brick foundation. It is divided along the east and west axis on all floors creating a duplex with each unit occupying half of the central block and an entire wing. The house provided sanctuary for two keepers' families during long periods of isolation on the Currituck Outer Banks. Outbuildings on the left side of the house include a storehouse/privy and several utility buildings.
