Keepers' House with Wild Horses
Lloyd D. Childers
March 1998 - 4"x6" color print
[photo 11]
Lush winter rye grass surrounding the restored Keepers' House offers special appeal to deer and wild horses in the area. The two horses pictured here strayed from their usual home north of the paved road and were allowed to visit the fenced compound temporarily (the site was closed to the public) until they were returned to their herd. Historical records and scientific studies have linked today's Corolla horses to clear Spanish origins. The animals have roamed the Outer Banks for more than 400 years.
